Boot mode ????
Hello everyone!
I'm new to chiptuning, but I'm dedicated to learn as much as possible. I have been successfully found everything I wanted to know so far, but now I'm stuck, because I simply cannot figure out what boot mode exactly is. I have been to several sites which were trying to explain what boot mode is, but all of them were incomplete and only made me even more confused. I tried to search for az explanation here, but cannot find one also. So my question is: could you tell me (or link a site/pdf) what boot mode is and (more important) what it is for? How do I get in boot mode (I guess it varies between differenct ECUs). Do I always have to use boot mode to read/write ECU. Thank you for the help |

RE: Boot mode ????
Boot Mode kind of depends on what ECU/DME you are referring to. I see you have a BMW logo tagged with this post, so I can assume BMW is your target project.
The TriCore comes in a few types of MPU. I deal with 1797 so I only know its architecture. The BOOTP is in various places of the ECU/DME you will be trying to use a BDM on. This is getting the ECU/DME in BOOTP mode so the BDM will retrieve the flash eeprom, and the iROM files. There may be others based again on the type of MPU you are dealing with. So alot more information is needed to give you much direction. I started reading all the info I could on the MPU first. You have to have some idea of the flash eeprom and its working. 16 hours a day 60 days should do it on that study. More info, more direction... |
