Problem with Audi MMI3GP - no sound
Hey folks!
A friend of mine has a problem with his Audi A4 B8 and his MMI 3GP. He had a water ingress in his rear trunk on the left side that damaged his Radio Unit (Part# 4G1 035 053E). Because of that, the MMI still worked but he had no audio output. Therefore he bought a used, working Radio Unit with the same part number and went to the local Audi dealer to remove the component protection, but they didn't succeed in getting the audio back working. They then simply told him: "Well, we can look for the fault but this might take a very long time and will be also very expensive, because there might be something wrong at the backside of the MMI" (I have no clue what they might mean?!). Maybe some more data I got out of the MMI itself or the Red Engineering Menu: Media version: HN+_EU_AU3G_P0530 Navigation database version: 8R0060884AH ECE 5.13.8 MOST Version: AU3G MU Software: 0524 Text tool version: HMI_8.04-1_Cl_2.93-1 Do you guys have any idea what the problem might be, provided that the Audi dealer programmed everything correctly? Greetings, Daniel. |

RE: Problem with Audi MMI3GP - no sound
MMI3G systems can use the radio unit as amplifier or use an specific amplifier.
The car has specific amplifier? Maybe it's damaged too... |

RE: Problem with Audi MMI3GP - no sound
Thanks for addressing my problem!
If this MMI has an external amplifier, shouldn't it also be located in the rear trunk on the left? The only component located there was the Radio Unit. Today, I checked for error codes with my Gutmann tester, and the following ones were persistent: Address 47: Sound System 02981 - Connection between Radio and Impedance Converter 1 02982 - Connection between Radio and Impedance Converter 2 03278 - Functionality Limited due to Missing Messages Address 5F: Information Electr. 00862 - Antenna for GPS Navigation (R50/R52) 00822 - Connection DSP to Radio In Optical Bus Diagnostics, all 3 components were fine... (I didn't take a picture, but I'm sure it was 1) gateway, 2) MMI, 3) the radio unit) I hope this helps for further troubleshooting... |

RE: Problem with Audi MMI3GP - no sound
Hey folks!
To give you a feedback, or simply if somebody else has the problem: I don't know what Audi dealers have to do to remove component protection. Do you need to go into 56 - Radio to unlock protection for other devices? Because the problem was the long coding of the Radio ECU. They changed it to "external amplifier", but it turned out that this particular car has the normal Audi audio system (no B&O and no Bose), which means it doesn't have an external amplifier, but the amplifier is integrated in the radio unit itself. However: Sound is back working, everything else as well, but Navigation doesn't work, those 2 faults still existent: Address 56: Radio Labels: 4F0-035-0xx-56.clb Control Module Part Number: 4G1 035 053 J HW: 4G1 035 053 Component and/or Version: Radio U Basic H41 0133 Software Coding: 010003020100000001 Work Shop Code: WSC 02391 785 00200 VCID: 2615F685F8E4F3EA75F-8072 1 Fault Found 03175 - Invalid Data Set 000 - - Freeze Frame Fault Status: 01100000 Fault Priority: 4 Fault Frequency: 3 Reset counter: 178 Mileage: 243837 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2024.03.16 Time: 16:06:30 Freeze Frame Voltage: 12.10 V Bin. RE: Problem with Audi MMI3GP - no sound
Part was from other car with ext. amplifer so it had the old coding from the other car. Audi Dealer had the task to remove component protection, not to recode the Unit, so they did not touch. Invalid Dataset can exist with a wrong coding or/and of wrong parameters applied.
you can ignore it, if it works or you can repair. For repair: you need Audi workshop with online or someone with online access. (Re)apply newest mmi update. The Radio/Amplifer can have an older/newer version and online SVM can make a problem, if version differs from the old documented part. When applied newest update there is a SVM Code to make online documentation of the update. There it normally applies the right dataset and the right coding. After that i still would go to the ecu 56 and will start in guided function the check ecu configuration (online) which recheck/apply coding and dataset. If EU Car apply: 8R0 906 961 FC : HN+_EU_AU3G_K0942 (SVM-Code: 3GPEU942AU3G) Problem: Audi workshop will mostly not do anything, what you tell them in the front office. You have to talk to an experienced workshop mechanic and hope they will not charge you much. For Navigation Problem: is it showing wrong place and driving through forests while on the motorway? GPS roof antenna is mostly broken because of micro crack and rainwater going inside. Sometimes wirement breaks. Cheapest Solution without changing roof antenna. Go to AMZ and search after gps fakra antenna (blue fakra end or turquoise end) and plug it in mmi unit. you can place the gps antenna somewhere behind mmi unit when car has no heat shielded front window. If my answer helped to fix anything, then don't forget to give me some rep please!
